The benefits of treating Pool Water with UV are well proven.
UV has been used to sterlise water for over 60 years. Public Pools are now specifying UV. UV is also growing in popularity in domestic swimming pools. Particularly in pools where water quality is paramount: hydrotherapy pools, quality indoor pools etc. Domestic pools can be run with a reduced chorine level when UV is used as the Primary Disinfectant. Installing a UV system guarantees the very best in water quality.
The greatest benefit of UV treatment is that short-wave ultraviolet light has a photo-oxidation effect that destroys chloramines and other toxic byproducts of chlorine. This is done without adding any further chemicals to the water. Much less chlorine needs to be used to provide bacterial control so water quality and atmospheric conditions are considerably improved. The main purpose of UV is to kill bacteria, viruses, moulds and their spores which reduces the risk of transmission of stomach, skin and respiratory tract infections to bathers.
The primary UV disinfection process destroys all bacteria passing through the UV treatment system. In particular, and unlike ozone systems, this protects bathers against bacteria in the filter media reentering the pool.
